The Government is offering a time-limited £2,000 grant to small and medium-sized businesses that are new to importing or exporting goods between Great Britain and the EU, or moving goods between GB and Northern Ireland.
The SME Brexit Support Fund can be put toward training or professional advice and it is available until the end of June, or possibly sooner depending on uptake. So the advice is to act quickly.
As experts in customs and supply chain matters, Harwood Hutton is ideally placed to guide businesses that qualify for the grant.
Michael Ashdown leads the Harwood Hutton international trading team and, depending on your location, he can make his skills and experience available to you at your place of work.
You may need Michael’s help with customs declarations and general form-filling, or advice on the classification of your goods, or you may wish to discuss applying for Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status or consider warehousing arrangements.
The grant could go a long way to covering the cost of Michael’s expertise.
To qualify for the grant you must:
• have been established in the UK for at least 12 months before submitting the application, or currently hold AEO status
• not have previously failed to meet its tax or customs obligations
• have no more than 500 employees
• have no more than £100 million turnover
Your business must also either:
• complete (or intend to complete) import or export declarations internally for its own goods
• use someone else to complete import or export declarations but requires additional capability internally to effectively import or export (such as advice on rules of origin or advice on dealing with a supply chain)
If you already import or export goods from or to a country that is not in the EU, you are not, unfortunately, eligible for the SME Brexit Support Fund.
However, you may still benefit from Michael Ashdown’s wisdom and we would be delighted to look at ways of improving your efficiency and profitability.
